share on BufferForca the sixth edition of the Specializing Master TAD at Politecnico di Milano, students were tasked to create vehicles for Audi and Bugatti brands.
The specific background scenario for each project was defined by the students themselves and provided the basis for all subsequent design choices.
In this first part we report the projects for Bugatti, which pushed the students to develop mainly the ideas of exclusiveness and uniqueness.

Bugatti La Batarde Concept
Design team: Marco De Nigris, Oscar Gutierrez Correa, Antonino Martini
La Batarde Concept is an extreme single-seat sportscar equipped with a turbine powertrain. The target customer “is a man that is able to take all the risk in life challenging the impossible, a unique and different user, always looking for new feelings and sensations to fill his ambitious life.”
Inspired by the themes classicism, force and imagination, the design is centered around the turbine, an element that is treated as a “muscle, the heart, the element of life”.
The driver literally rides this element and this inspires all the interfaces: following this metaphor, the seat becomes a saddle and the cloche represents the bridles.
The distinctive opening system that “hugs” the driver inside the cockpit also reinforces the biomorphic aesthetic.
Bugatti Esders Concept
Design team: Andrea Bardusco, Riccardo Camponovo, Pan Dai
The Esders Concept was inspired by Armand Esders, a clothing manufacturer who in 1932 commissioned a Bugatti Royale without any headlights in order not to ruin the design.
Following the same idea, the most distinctive feature is the overall shape of the car, which appears like a monolith, almost without any greenhouse.
“Thinking about a Bugatti car for the city of Milano led us to design a fascinating and seductive vehicle, both refined and mysterious.”
The exclusive two-seater offers three different configurations: a hard-top closed greenhouse, a woven roof with no windscreen or a windscreen on a roofless greenhouse.
The most important features are the slender shape of the body on the outside and the flexibility of the interior space.
Bugatti Hedone Concept
Design team: Alessandro Goldin, Lucca Pagotto Cassavia, Luigi Spinazzola, Carlos Vidal Vijande
Hedone was born from the idea of creating a Bugatti model inspired by the city of Milan, one of the world fashion capitals of the world.
“Thinking Bugatti not only as icon of power but also as symbol of elegance, we created a shape able to dress the legendary essence of Bugatti cars. “
The main inspiration for the project came from Tom Ford, a fashion designer, “never ordinary, provocative but never tasteless.”
“He has a unique way of conveying beauty and sensuality. We imagined the shape of this car coming from a drape placed on its front and strained on the back so that it creates fascinating wrinkles and tensions.”
About the Specializing Master TAD
Directed by Prof. Fausto Brevi, the Master TAD has its core in the Car Design Studio, which is organized as a real Centro Stile, and based on the activities of 5 teachers.
Emilio Mario Favilla acts as coordinator, Zbigniew Maurer as Exterior Chief Designer, Samuel Codegoni as Interior Chief Designer, Chiara Morellini as Color & Trim Chief Designer, while Francesca Lavizzari is in charge for the Advanced Design.
Collaboration with Volkswagen Group
Since 2010 Master TAD has an agreement for a strong collaboration with Volkswagen Group. Every year Volkswagen Group designers decide the design brief of the main project on which the students will apply.

The partnership includes regular design reviews done on student works by Volkswagen Group designers with the goal of checking the global quality of the students’ works.
At the end of the master course, the best students are selected for an internship in one of the VW styling departments.

Most of the TAD alumni are working at automotive companies all around the world. Some of them are employed in Industrial Product Design companies. Lastly, few of them become freelancers or turn towards different activities.
