Hydra Design Labs launches automotive design store and learning center

Californian studio Hydra Design Labs has launched Hydra101, a website with tutorials, resources and plugins for automotive design professionals and students.

Hydra Design Labs, an independent automotive design studio located in Southern California, has just announced the launch of a second related company called Hydra101.

As president of Hydra Design Labs Jon Hull explained, Hydra101 is an online automotive design store and car design school created to target automotive designers, including both professionals and students.

The site will feature two types of free tutorials: “quic-pic,” which includes step-by-step images that provide quick tips or tricks; and short video tutorials that explain various aspects of design, sketching, 3D modeling and other topics.

For the next future, Hydra101 has also announced a series of commercial full-length video tutorials that focus on larger projects.

The software side of Hydra101 will feature the company’s own software, as well as HDRI images, 3D models and other items that are useful to car designers, including a line of Photoshop plugins.

The first plugin – already available – is called Hydra HDRI Pro, and allows to convert an 8-bit image into a 32-bit spherical HDRI for use in 3D rendering programs such as Keyshot.

Sorry Hydra Design but, if you want to convince us that you actually have truely professional design credentials, you are going to have to do WAY better than this corn ball, derivative and way-too-busy design effort.
