“Motion and life has a different meaning for everybody,” says Sato. “This BMW sculpture represents what life means to me.”
The concept consists of three elements, each representing the different stages of life: the mobile spheres represent the organic and flexible nature of humans when they are born; the middle section, made out of sheet aluminum, depicts the body becoming stiffer and sheer with age; and the facet section in the end shows it ultimately breaking apart.
“The strings that connect the three stages demonstrate how we are constantly pulling ourselves back together,” says Sato. “This cycle of life means motion to me.”
Sato developed the entire concept by way of sketch models, instead of actual sketches, studying different design processes from product design and architecture along the way.
