The Abarth-23 Concept was created by Turin IED design student Maksym “Max” Shkinder for its final thesis at the two-year Master of Art in Transportation Design.
The project took about 6 months from the first sketch to the final 1:4 scale model.
With the aim of creating a new generation of pure Italian cars, Max has focused on extreme sportiness (a core value of the Abarth brand).
The Abarth-23 has compact dimensions, with a length of 4,000mm and a width of 1,850 mm.
During the concept research phase a number of features were investigated, including the adoption of surface textures to enhance the car’s aerodynamics and several solution for an unconventional door opening system.
The chosen design is a single, asymmetric door panel that is hinged on one side and integrates the front section of the canopy.
Compared with the IED’s Abarth Scorp-Ion Concept, the Abarth-23 has a similar V-shaped element that defines the rear end adding dynamism to the overall design and is visually matched by the triangular shape of the air intakes on the side panels.
